Reframing Routines: Helping Our Kids Cooperate

Getting children to cooperate can be challenging, but routines can make a big difference. Routines provide structure and predictability, helping children know what to expect and reducing daily struggles around things like mornings, meals, and bedtime.

When used consistently and calmly, routines can improve cooperation, reduce stress, and strengthen family relationships. They also help children build independence and confidence.

Keep routines simple and consistent, give clear instructions, and offer support based on your child’s age and needs. Most importantly, praise your child’s efforts to encourage positive habits.

With time and consistency, routines can turn stressful moments into smoother, more positive experiences for the whole family.
